When I was the features editor at Period Living magazine many moons ago, one of my favourite duties was running the Readers’ Awards, an annual event that invited readers to put their homes forward to be featured in the magazine. When I received one particular entry, presented in a very organised binder full of pages that mapped out the journey this couple had taken, I knew straight away it was a winner and I couldn’t wait to visit in person…Keep reading
Anyone who knows me knows I love homes full of treasures, and when I turn up to style a shoot, I love to carefully arrange the homeowner’s finds to create beautiful images with the photographer. Lisa Piddington had enough car-boot collections for two or three shoots, but I chose to display her more colourful items in our shots, and allow all those fabulous florals to blossom…

When Lynda Thomas wrote to me to tell me about the massive project she’d undertaken on the Essex coast, combining two Victorian semi-detached houses into one home, I was more than a little intrigued. And when she sent me some snaps of her finished home, I didn’t waste any time in arranging a photo shoot…Keep reading
When I first met lifestyle blogger and car-boot addict Tamsyn Morgans through Twitter she was just about to move to a wreck of a house with her two children and planned to completely renovate it on a tight budget, so although she was interested in a photo shoot I thought I’d be waiting a while till she was ready. But this amazing woman pulled out all the stops and just a year or so later, I got my styling hands on Tamsyn’s incredible vintage collections…Keep reading
When I turned up to meet the owners and see this art-filled house for myself a few weeks before the shoot, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, I’d seen a few snaps and knew it would be worth shooting, but I wasn’t completely prepared for the quality of all the workmanship. The owners, Daniele and Susanna, have strong design sensibilities, she is a former architect turned artist, he is an academic and novelist and previously a stay at home dad (the children are now in their late-teens/early 20s), so both know exactly what their family needs in terms of function and form. Employing some talented craftspeople, they have modernised the house yet been incredibly sympathetic and respectful of the original architecture; it’s the perfect balance of old and new.Keep reading
Clean lines, elegant period details and a palette of soft paint shades – that’s what caught my eye when I first saw this lovely Victorian house. I had contacted the owner, artist Vanessa Bowman, after I found her work for sale online. I thought that if her wonderful paintings were anything to go by she might just have a beautiful home…Keep reading
Last week I had the absolute pleasure of styling up a collector’s home for a photo shoot, a collector of all things vintage. There were hundreds of fabric swatches piled high in the craft room, colourful enamelware hanging out in the kitchen, floral cushions snuggled up in the bedroom, and rusty old tins adding their pre-loved charm to every shelf. Each room was crammed full of wonderful things for me to play with; I was in heaven.Keep reading
Home, such a small word with such a big meaning. To me, it should be not just practical and functional, but personal too, and that’s what should make it beautiful; I firmly believe that our homes should tell the stories of our lives. I’ve been inspired by so many people I’ve met over the years, and I endeavour to make my own home as personal to me as those I visit are to their owners.Keep reading
finding beauty everywhere
As an interiors writer and stylist specialising in real home features for interiors magazines, I get to travel all over Europe to style people's homes, so on this blog I'm going to be sharing some of the lovely homes I visit, as well as the locations that I end up in.
I'm also passionate about good food, nature, art, urban design and architecture so there'll be the odd smattering of posts that relate to what I get up to on my days off, whether on my own or with my family, Mr Jones and Lillie-Mae, and Daisy pup.
I hope you enjoy it,
