When I see homes with sky blue interiors it gets me very excited for the year ahead, those spring and summery hues have that wonderful freshness that hails the start of a new year of life and growth…Keep reading
Jane Beck couldn’t have chosen a more extreme opposite of the busy city she left behind: when you’re inside her home you feel a million miles from everything and everyone: low ceilings and 18-inch thick walls create a solid and comforting cocoon separating you from modern life and its frivolous distractions…Keep reading
As I’m a writer as well as a stylist, I’m usually found hibernating in my home office for the first few weeks of the year, writing up some of my commissions from the previous year. So when one of my contacts in France got in touch and asked if I wanted to revisit her for a few days in January/February to photograph some more old barns she’d converted, at first I thought, “but I don’t do that”. Then after about 3 seconds I thought, “why not??” and got to work packing up my props basket with objects borrowed from some of the talented craftspeople I’ve discovered over the years…Keep reading
Looking through some of the photos from my portfolio, I realise how many beautiful ways owners have used the colour pink in their interiors: from soft and chalky, to bold fuchsia, with a bubble-gum pink in between; none of these room schemes are saccharin sweet, however…Keep reading
When I turned up to meet the owners and see this art-filled house for myself a few weeks before the shoot, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, I’d seen a few snaps and knew it would be worth shooting, but I wasn’t completely prepared for the quality of all the workmanship. The owners, Daniele and Susanna, have strong design sensibilities, she is a former architect turned artist, he is an academic and novelist and previously a stay at home dad (the children are now in their late-teens/early 20s), so both know exactly what their family needs in terms of function and form. Employing some talented craftspeople, they have modernised the house yet been incredibly sympathetic and respectful of the original architecture; it’s the perfect balance of old and new.Keep reading
Last week, photographer Rob Sanderson and I went on a Christmas road trip to shoot four festive houses. I’d been planning it for months, arranging dates with the owners, discussing the decorating styles they were planning, making sure they would have their Christmas trees up, presents wrapped and a selection of decorations for the entire house. Thankfully, all four owners were amazing, and just as excited as me about their photo shoot, so they each went above and beyond to make their home beautifully festive and incredibly cosy…Keep reading
This glorious house in the woods was my first photo shoot as a freelance writer and stylist. It made a magical start to the new chapter in my life: Phil and Philippa’s warm welcome was a wonderful way to begin my journey into the unknown world of self-employment. And their home makes a wonderful location not just for our incredibly festive photo shoot but for the dozens of friends and family members who drop in over the Christmas holidays…Keep reading
In my career as a stylist, I’ve been lucky to find some very talented florists who have helped me out with my Christmas shoots over the years, and this year I’ve discovered even more of these floral artists who I hope to work with in the future, and I’m pleased to include a few of my favourites in my round up of beautiful and natural festive wreaths, some of which you can order for your own front door if, like me, you haven’t got the time (or the skills!) to make your own…Keep reading
OK, let’s put our decorating mistakes of the past aside, and embrace the colour purple into our homes once again to create a warm scheme for autumn/winter with a bold feature wall, or by adding simple flashes of colour in accessories that can stand the test of time or can be swapped around according to the season…Keep reading
finding beauty everywhere
As an interiors writer and stylist specialising in real home features for interiors magazines, I get to travel all over Europe to style people's homes, so on this blog I'm going to be sharing some of the lovely homes I visit, as well as the locations that I end up in.
I'm also passionate about good food, nature, art, urban design and architecture so there'll be the odd smattering of posts that relate to what I get up to on my days off, whether on my own or with my family, Mr Jones and Lillie-Mae, and Daisy pup.
I hope you enjoy it,
