Shortly after embarking on my freelance career, I had the pleasure of visiting a part of France I’d never been to before: Brittany. Photographer Rob Sanderson and I traveled by ferry then took the short drive to our location for the week: Celine Lamour’s incredible farmhouse and gites, where we styled and shot, among others, this charming yet cool former forge…

‘I love colour but have been uncharacteristically restrained here,’ says Celine. ‘This cottage suits the calmer approach. Besides, I can always add touches of deep pink with some fresh cut roses from the garden.’

Similar table from Pine Solutions. Celine has a vast collection of jelly moulds and flan tins that tone beautifully with the grey painted boards (wall colour similar to Plummett, ceiling similar to Middleton Pink both Farrow & Ball). Black pendants have been used as task lights; try the Eglo by Ocean Lighting. A simple kitchen offers a streamlined feel (Ikea’s Veddinge in grey offers the look).

A spiral staircase was chosen to save space making this a very comfortable cottage for a family; the Stratford at Elite Spiral Stairs is a similarly simple design. An Ektorp sofa from Ikea sits in front of the timber wall painted akin to Plummett by Farrow & Ball. Celine’s collections sourced at various markets and brocantes give the sitting room a homely feel.

Bathroom

The bathroom is a combination of agricultural style and spa chic with slate on the floor and walls, rough plaster and timber teamed with a decadent tub and wet room shower. The Eco bath from Castello Luxury Baths gives you the luxury look without using too much water. A black square basin (such as the square honed basalt stone basin from Marble Mosaics) works with the grey painted boards for a unified feel.

Bedroom

The dramatic vaulted ceiling dominates the bedroom, so was painted a pink-tinged white (Middleton Pink by Farrow & Ball is a good match) and the bed and beams painted a softer grey than the one found downstairs to ensure it feels soft and relaxing (try Pavilion Gray by Farrow & Ball). Celine stenciled the floorboards with a floral pattern and added wicker baskets for bed linen.

Hi, I’m naomi jones, a freelance interiors writer and stylist, and mum to Lillie-Mae. For many years I was the features editor at Period Living, but after spending a year with my daughter after she was born in 2011, I figured a freelance life would allow me to be with her as much as possible while giving me the freedom to keep up with my passion for styling and writing about people’s homes.

finding beauty everywhere

As an interiors writer and stylist specialising in real home features for interiors magazines, I get to travel all over Europe to style people's homes, so on this blog I'm going to be sharing some of the lovely homes I visit, as well as the locations that I end up in.

I'm also passionate about good food, nature, art, urban design and architecture so there'll be the odd smattering of posts that relate to what I get up to on my days off, whether on my own or with my family, Mr Jones and Lillie-Mae, and Daisy pup.

I hope you enjoy it,

naomi x
